Finally, after being buried with work this week I finally had time to update the site. Not a whole lot has happened since last week, but here is my week in photos.
Had a chance to talk to James Brown's owner, Ryan, today (although this picture was taken last weekend). We had a funny conversation about how there have been an increasing number of bulldogs moving into North Beach. So far I've counted seven, but I'm sure there are others who just don't get out much. In any case, James Brown is probably still the most recognizable since he's always at the park and has this bald spot on his belly.
Here is Sparky, a 7-month old puppy and one of the 6 other bulldogs in North Beach. He's fairly new so I haven't seen him much, but I'm sure that with time he'll tone-up and look more bullish.
Lastly, Habibi, the frenchie. This guy was huge for his breed and very food motivated. In fact, we were holding a piece of turkey up above my camera to have him pose for me.

So I was in Los Angeles this week for work and was no more than 15 miles from UCLA. Unfortunately, I still didn't have a chance to visit campus and visit my favorite shack, Gushi's. =\ This is the 2nd time in two years I've been so close but haven't had the opportunity to see my old stomping ground. It wasn't bad though, I was still able to catch up with Andrew for dinner. Also, I came up with this great t-shirt design while doodling.
For those who don't get it, the "heart" is a map of UCLA's campus. Anyone who plans to take this idea and make it into a t-shirt/poster, etc... Feel free to do so, although it would be nice if I got some credit. :)

Yet another weekend wrap-up! So Norbert finally moved into North Beach today and we all went out to this burger joint, Mo's, I've been
dying to try. I haven't gone cause I just knew I would regret going, but since I was (for the most part) pretty good with what I ate this week, I figured it wouldn't hurt. Anyway, below are a few pictures from the restaurant and other weekend happenings.
I had the Blue Cheese burger... It didn't look as delicious as the Belly Burger, but it wasn't bad.
Here's where they grill the patties. I walk past this nearly everyday and it just makes my mouth salivate.
Found this little guy in some store window. Apparently he gets cold so his owner puts clothes on him before she comes to work.
Finally, another infamous James Brown shot. This is the quintessential James Brown pose, with the kong in his mouth and drool down his lips. How could someone not love such a beautiful animal?

There's something about this music video that really appeals to me. Aside from the fact I'm a huge fan of the
808s & Heartbreak album, I'm even more of a fan of this particular video. I started listening to this album while I was reading the
Wind-Up Bird Chronicle and this song just fit. In fact, when Kanye finally released this video I was shocked to see how well the images fit the song and how well the images fit the novel. If I still had the book, I'd post a part of it to prove my point but since I don't, you'll have to just enjoy the video by itself.
In world news, the much anticipated Beer Summit occurred. For those who have been out of the loop for the past two weeks, Obama invited the black Harvard professor, Henry Gates, and the white police officer, James Crowley, who arrested the professor, over to the White House for some beers. It was cute and I have to give Obama props for dealing with the situation well in face of his obvious gaffe (in saying that the Cambridge police "acted stupidly" in arrested Gates). Any case, the picture below is obviously a photo op that the White House will embrace for the next few weeks (2 white guys and 2 black guys have a few beers. How much more American can this picture be?). Also, I learned that Gates shares in my love for Sam Adam Light... Light, not regular. More props to him.
Professor Gates concurred, saying: "We hit it off right from the beginning. When he’s not arresting you, Sergeant Crowley is a really likable guy."

So I haven't had the chance to upload pictures for a few weeks, but I just got back from a Spanish tapa event and it gave me an incentive to post all my pictures. Feel free to read the captions below.
Although it was a tapas event, Jean and I brought a tiramisu and a bottle of wine. The chocolate bars we ate on the way back from Trader Joe's.
They have this picture at our Trader Joe's and I find this image fairly helpful when I'm trying to decide what beer to buy. Typically, I like to stay at the pale ale or lighter, but you can decide how heavy/light you like.
This is classic. So Jean and I found the dresser on the left at Berkeley and decided to bring it home. Unfortunately, the drawers are pretty messed up and today I found another one (exactly the same one) with working drawers one block from my place so we dragged it back. Now I have two dressers in my hallway.
Jaeger, possibly the largest bulldog at the monthly bulldog meetup! He's easily the most aggressive too, but so cute when he's not trying to get into fights!
James Brown, the neighborhood bulldog. Well known for his gripping powers throughout North Beach, San Francisco.
Finally, a picture of the
Language of the Birds installation at North Beach. They've had this up for several months now and I pass it each day I walk to work, but I just now got a photo of it. Essentially, there are these LED lights in the shape of books that light up in a semi-organized pattern. Check the link out to read more.
